Holiday Shopping near Wilderness Presidential Resort

Wilderness Presidential Resort is located conveniently for holiday shopping, with four major shopping centers within a half-hour's drive.

Central Park

15 minutes from Wilderness Presidential Resort, Central Park is the largest shopping center on the east coast, including more than 200 retailers.
The center features a Regal Cinema as well as fashion retailers like Ann Taylor Loft, Talbots and DSW Shoes, and an abundance of restaurants such as Bonefish, The Melting Pot and Carrabba’s Italian Grill. For your holiday shopping needs, stop by and take a “Walk in the Park”.

Spotsylvania Town Centre

15 minutes from Wilderness Presidential Resort and directly across from Central Park, Spotsylvania Town Center is a mall including stores such as Guitar Center, Dick's Sporting Goods, Belk, Costco, JCPenney, and Macy's.

Old Town Fredericksburg

Located 20 minutes from Wilderness Presidential Resort, Old Town is part of Fredericksburg’s downtown historic district. If you’re looking for a unique holiday gift, Old Town Fredericksburg has over 100 individual shops, chef-owned restaurants, and boutiques.

Culpeper Downtown

30 minutes from Wilderness, Culpepper is a small town nestled in the foothills of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. Downtown Culpeper has many well-preserved historic buildings and specialty shops including everything from a candy store with live puppet shows (Lollipop Station) to a shop dedicated to all things bees (La Bee da Loca).

November 2021 Events

November 13 & 14

Holiday Open House Weekend, Downtown Fredericksburg

This is the official start of holiday shopping in downtown Fredericksburg! Windows are decorated, holiday music is playing, and the streets are filled with good cheer.

Saturday, November 20

Children's Christmas Tree Lighting (4:00 p.m. in Hurkamp Park)

Meet Santa and other holiday characters, make fun holiday crafts, experience live music and much more at the Fredericksburg Annual Children’s Tree Lighting, located in Hurkamp Park in downtown Fredericksburg. This event is free and open to the public.

Digging The Constitution: Archaeology of the Civil War (1:00 p.m. at Montpelier)

Visit Visit James Madison’s historic Montpelier estate and museum for tours, exhibits, a groundbreaking exploration of slavery, and much more. This event includes a guided hike through the Confederate encampments that will examine what archaeology has uncovered about the Civil War.

29th Annual YMCA Turkey Trot

Located in downtown Fredericksburg, the YMCA Turkey Trot is a Thanksgiving Day tradition that attracts runners of all ages to run or walk the 5k course through scenic downtown Fredericksburg. Kids can get in on the fun by joining a parent in the 5k or running the 1 mile race.

Meet Me in St. Louis Musical (Riverside Center for the Performing Arts)

The Riverside Center for the Performing Arts is a traditional dinner theatre located 20 minutes from Wilderness Resort. They offer both evening and matinee performances. Dinner Theatre patrons are served a three-course, chef-prepared meal.

Catch dinner and their play for the 2021 Holiday season, Meet Me in St. Louis: “Based on the heartwarming MGM film starring Judy Garland, Meet Me in St. Louis is a rare treasure in the musical theatre; a wholesome and delightful portrait of a turn-of-the-century American family.” Memorable musical numbers include Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, The Boy Next Door, The Trolley Song, and Whenever I’m with You.

Come get your Christmas shopping done at Fredericksburg Expo and Conference Center, where 300+ artisans will be selling unique handmade items.

Fredericksburg Christmas Parade (5:30 p.m.)

Held in downtown Fredericksburg along Caroline and Princess Anne Streets, this year’s Christmas Parade will have a “Candyland” theme. Admission is free.

Eileen's Bakery & Cafe's 11th Annual Breakfast with Santa

Buy your ticket in advance for this limited event. Visit Eileen’s bakery for breakfast with Santa. Seating times will be 8:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m, and 11:30am.

Frosty 3 Miler and Reindeer Run

Run the Frosty 3 miler along the rolling hills of Mine road in this Stafford Christmas tradition. Or, for kids under 12, race in the mile-long Reindeer Run. Dressing up in Christmas gear is encouraged!

7th Annual Wee Christmas Dollhouses & Miniatures Show at Historic Kenmore

One hour from Wilderness Presidential Resort, historic Kenmore is a beautiful, Georgian-style brick mansion built by George Washington’s sister, Betty Washington Lewis. During this event, visit a delightful neighborhood of highly-detailed replica dollhouses – including one of Kenmore itself – and miniatures in the Crowninshield Museum. Put your minds and eyes to the test with our “I Spy Miniatures” challenge – fun for young and old alike.

Tuesday, December 14

National Museum of Marine Corps Visit with Santa (10 a.m.—12 p.m.)

The National Museum of Marine Corps, located 30 minutes from Wilderness Presidential Resort, is a lasting tribute to the U.S. Marines located on a 135-acre site adjacent to Marine Corps Base in Quantico, Virginia. Get a photo with Santa at this event. Holiday-themed activities and crafts will be available while waiting to meet St. Nick. Guests must provide their own camera. All families must be in line by 11:30 to ensure a photo with Santa. This event is FREE and open to the public!

First Day Hike (9 a.m.—12 p.m.)

Start the New Year off right by spending the first day of 2022 in nature at Motts Run Reservoir. Enjoy a hike with a fun activity along the way. This is a free event.

Fredericksburg Boat Show

The Fredericksburg Boat Show displays the latest models in boats, personal watercraft and new marine technology. It offers the best prices of the year, with deals you can’t find anywhere else.

FXBG Winter Restaurant Week 2022

Fredericksburg’s semi-annual Restaurant Week now involves participating restaurants from all over the city. It’s the perfect opportunity to sample the unique restaurant scene and flavors of Fredericksburg. Dedicated chefs embrace this opportunity to showcase their talents to both new and returning customers.

Fredericksburg Snowball Fight

Come dressed for the weather, because this event is held snow or shine. The snowball fight is for all ages, but children must be supervised by an accompanying adult. Teen and adults can bring a group of friends for adult-only matches. Admission is $3 per person or $5 for 2 people. Matches are held approximately every 10 minutes. Signed waivers are required to play!

Hazel Run Concert Series

Local favorite Hazel Run returns to St. George's Episcopal Church with folk and bluegrass music. The concert is free with donations accepted at the door.

8th Annual Fredericksburg Kid Expo

During this event, you can learn about new adventures, sports clubs and fitness, learning centers, toys and games, safety products, health and nutrition, pediatricians, martial arts, dancing, day cares, schools, natural products, activity equipment, camps and much more for kids of all ages.

Attractions and entertainment for children will be provided, which in the past has included realistic walking dinosaurs, a fossil-finding activity, a rock wall, a musical petting zoo, and a feed the butterflies exhibit.

"I Chose You With An Extravagant Love"

On February 12, 2022 Something Delightful presents Dinner, Dancing, and Live Entertainment including an open mic, karaoke, comedy, and more. This formal Valentine’s Day event is for everyone, whether you’re single, dating, or married. Tickets are $50.

St. George Jazz Ensemble with St. George Voices

St. George's Episcopal Church hosts an afternoon of Jazz and Blues brought to you by the St. George Jazz Ensemble and St. George Voices. The concert is free with donations accepted at the door.
