Either way, modern camping doesn’t have to look like the camping you remember! With so many various ways to camp from a tent, RVs, and cabin camping, you can make it whatever you want!

VA Campgrounds and RV Parks
Let’s start with your different options for where to camp in VA. As a beautiful state throughout and with close proximity to Washington, DC, Virginia has been a camper’s favorite destination for decades.
Whether you’re looking for mountains, a more luxury-style of glamping, or want to RV at an amusement park for some extra thrills, Virginia has you covered.
VA Campgrounds
The most common thing that comes to mind when ‘camping’ is mentioned in good-ole tent pitching, but camping today means more options than ever before.
Choosing to tent camp is a great option for just about anyone who doesn’t mind living without a few common amenities at their fingertips for a few days. The cost of tent camping is usually less, once you’ve invested in the gear. Tent camping offers less in terms of creature comforts but MORE in terms of disconnection, unwinding, and connection with nature.
If the idea of waking up in a tent before dawn, bathing in the lake, and cooking your food over open fires is exactly what you’re looking for, here are some of our favorite VA campgrounds:
North Bend Park
North Bend Park is located on John H. Kerr Reservoir. The 50,000-acre lake extends 39 miles up the Roanoke River along 800 miles of shoreline. They off 249 primitive and electric/water hookup sites on or near the lake.
They also offer:Bicycle/jogging trails
A fishing pier
Playgrounds
Swim beaches
And boat launch areas are also availableMisty Mountain Camp Resort

VA RV Parks
Okay, so many roughing it isn’t exactly your idea of a good time but you still want to be as close to nature as possible - go RVing!
You have the option of purchasing or renting an RV for your camping trip and depending on how often you see yourself getting away on the open road, either option can be a great fit for you.
The cost of owning and maintaining an RV is substantially more than purchasing a tent and few chairs, BUT the home-away-from-home feeling that you’ll have on your trips is incomparable.
Staying in an RV does require a few changes to your daily routine and takes you out of the “home” environment, giving you a real sense of getting away.
RVing at a campground allows you to connect up to utilities like electricity and water, making your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Campgrounds offer all of their amenities to RVers, opening the opportunities you have to participate in any number of activities.
Choosing to camp in an RV is the best of both worlds: your own comfortable space with nature just a screen door away.
